Sala Robam

Sala Robam is a Dance and Music School in Kep, Cambodia. The project followed a won competition, a crowdfunding campaign, and a 2-month stay on-site for construction supervision.

The building is located alongside the road in order to preserve the sports area (football and basketball fields) in the center of the site. The dance and music rooms form a 180 sqm ensemble, protected from the elements by solid brick walls on the east and west facades, which are exposed to rain. It is shielded from the road but allows views through the perforated brick wall on the main north facade. The south facade consists of bamboo roller panels that can fully close the space or open it up to the sports fields.

The project adapts to the climatic conditions with natural ventilation provided by a bamboo false ceiling and protection against floods through the elevated structure. It utilizes materials available in the region of Cambodia.
