On the right bank of the Garonne River, Bassens is a growing industrial port. Above this vast area, a residential plateau in the Bordeaux urban area overlooks the port. However, there is no physical or programmatic connection between the two. On the contrary, there are strong urban divisions caused by road infrastructure and the high-speed train line.
Through what we call River (S)trips, the aim is to develop a new, strong, and legible landscape structure that starts from the residential plateau and extends to the river, crossing the large industrial port zone. It seeks to establish connections, which are currently non-existent, between two fabric that turn their backs to each other, bridging the gap between two radically different scales.
Each landscape strip serves a specific function based on its location: ecological, economic, energy-related, or social. These landscape strips also provide a platform for new services and facilities.
Here, the transformation occurs from what already exists, and the river becomes a rediscovered landscape and an attractive focal point towards which the urban space should open up.
